Hazel’s consultancy and mentor career began in the arts and creative sector, in public arts policy, marketing and management, arts businesses, and independent television production. Hazel was one of the first consultants to be accredited as adviser and assessor of the newly launched Investors in People standard in the UK. Having moved to New Zealand in 2000, Hazel was appointed Director, Human Resources at the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand which was working towards meeting the Investors in People standard.

Since then, Hazel has worked with many New Zealand and Pacific Island SME’s, not-for-profit organisations and has had a particluar focus with public service clients, many of them in the education sector. She has also worked for the Government of the Cook Islands, including a twelve month assignment as Public Service Strengthening Advisor at the Office of the Public Service Commissioner.

Hazel’s particular strengths lie in helping organisations to learn about and understand themselves, how the problems they experience arise, and how to create the conditions for improved performance going forward.
